Welcome to the website of the Southend Art Club

 

The Southend Art Club was established in 1929 as ‘The Southend Art Circle’ with the aim ‘To promote the appreciation and practice of art in the area’.

 

Apart from a short break for World War II, the club can trace its history back to 1929 when it was formed with 25 members.

 

It reformed after the war as ‘The Southend Sketch Club’ and assumed its current name in 1969.

 

Today membership exceeds 270 and every year exhibitions of work are held in the town.   Several members successfully exhibit at national level and are prominent in Art World circles.

 

From September to March the club holds demonstrations by professional artists in the Lecture Theatre at Southend Central Library.   During the summer Saturday workshops and demonstrations are held at our cottage on Butlers Farm at Rochford.   Visits are also arranged throughout the year to exhibitions in London and other venues.
