These paintings are about the discovery of the moment, when a landscape is suddenly made clear, seeing colour in water for the first time or the surprise and delight at the chance viewing of people relating to their surroundings. I’ve tried to interpret with paint how I felt on the day, the warmth of the sunshine, coolness of the air, a connection with the people and an emotional response to colours that I see. When I paint, I think about conveying movement, colour and power but inside I feel quiet serenity and total peace.
After completing high school, I studied art for two years at Douglas College in Vancouver, Canada then moved to Toronto to complete a 4 year Degree in Fine Art at Ontario College of Art. I have lived in Leigh-on-Sea almost 28 years developing my skills as an artist, working in egg tempera, watercolour and acrylic.
Currently, I exhibit at Two Tree Gallery, Leigh-on-Sea (www.facebook.com/twotreegallery) and will be showing new paintings there for the Leigh Art Trail (10th – 17th June). I also have an exhibition on at the YAP Gallery in Southend Adult Community College, Ambleside Drive, Southend (28th April - 30th June). I also teach drawing and painting at Southend Adult Community College and run art classes for children and adults in Leigh as well as drop in Life Drawing sessions.
